The project aims to increase the participation of people with migration experience in the social and public life of the city of Wrocław. According to the Office for Foreigners, in the first quarter of 2021, almost 480,000 foreigners had valid residence permits in our country. In reality, the number of migrants in Poland is much higher. Wrocław alone is home to over 100,000 people with migration experience. In the ‘Strategy for the Intercultural Dialogue in Wrocław for years 2018-2022’ the need to intensify integration activities to facilitate the inclusion of migrants in the community was mentioned. The development of civic attitudes and joint responsibility for the local environment is fostered by the participation of residents in participatory programmes. Based on the information provided by municipal entities, it is difficult to estimate the number of people with migration experience participating in these programmes. From the interviews conducted, however, it appears to be negligible. On the other hand, migrants in Wrocław themselves are interested in learning about local participatory programmes. The project “Active Migrants” includes a number of activities which will increase the knowledge about participation and participation programmes among migrants. We will carry out a research diagnosis and networking meetings for the Wrocław community of organisations and institutions that work on civic rights and activation on a daily basis. We will publish a research report. We will carry out a ‘Participatory Migrant Academy’ – a series of workshops dedicated to Wrocław’s participatory programmes, enriched with mentoring hours. The course and results of the project will benefit migrants as well as institutions and NGOs in Wrocław.
