According to statistical data and the diagnosis we carried out, residents of the Suchy Las municipality, including young people, are not interested in local affairs and do not get involved in civic activities. Therefore, the main goal of our project is to increase the activity of young people from Suchy Las in public participation and creation of local policies. The project consists of two components. The first one includes the implementation of an information and education campaign on participatory budget in 5 schools in the municipality, voting for submitted projects and supporting the implementation of the winning projects. These projects will be implemented by members of our NGO in close cooperation with the applicants. The second component of the project is a series of workshops and training sessions to support and improve the competencies of junior councillors and future candidates for the Suchy Las Municipal Youth Council. The training sessions topics include, among other things, local government law and soft competencies, e.g. public speaking or preparing and conducting Oxford-style debates. In cooperation with experts, the current junior councillors will also work on a draft resolution for a youth participatory budgeting to be submitted to the Suchy Las Municipality Council. In addition, we are hosting picnics and participatory breakfasts as part of the project’s promotional activities. The direct beneficiaries of the project are the junior councillors of the Suchy Las Municipality, the students of the 5 schools involved in the preparation and implementation of the participatory budget activities and the people attending the ‘participation breakfasts’.
