The project addresses the need to change the way people with disabilities are portrayed in the media in the Greater Poland Province. This topic arouses little interest in the local media environment of the region. Moreover, there is a large discrepancy between recommendations in this area and the reality. On the one hand, various reports and strategic documents contain commitments to promote a positive image of people with disabilities. On the other hand, too few people with disabilities work in the media and the quality of materials portraying this group is too low. The need for action in this respect has already been mentioned by many social communication researchers, as well as by authors of such documents as the Regulatory Strategy of the National Broadcasting Council or the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Joint action to improve the image of people with disabilities will result in greater integration of these people in the local community. The main objective of the project is to prevent the exclusion of people with disabilities in the media of the Wielkopolska Region. We are setting up the Wielkopolska Media Network of Persons with Disabilities, within which local media creators work out solutions to diagnosed problems. We conduct workshops for secondary school students run by journalists with disabilities. A publication is produced describing the principles for promoting a positive image of people with disabilities in the local media.
